A letter carrying this stamp is something very special – it has a special value and a special purpose.

On September 18, 1997, a new chapter in the history of airship aviation began with the maiden flight of the Zeppelin NT. Celebrated by thousands of spectators, the airship – even today the most modern one in the world – took to the skies above Friedrichshafen for the first time. It was not only traveling in airships that was brought back to life, but also the Zeppelin mail –  much sought-after by collectors – was resumed, as the Zeppelin NT carried "Kinderdorf Flugpost" on its first flight already.

Since then, the Zeppelin NT has carried airmail commemorating various social and political occasions. The "Kinderdorf Flugpost" shows especially the technical development of airships based on the lighter-than-air principle.

Provider of the "Kinderdorf Flugpost" is the association of Freunde der Kinderdorf Flugpost e. V. The income from the sale of the Zeppelin mail collectibles is used to support the Pestalozzi children's village in Wahlwies. The "Kinderdorf Flugpost" has many good customers with well-known stamp dealers among them, e.g. the world leader in Zeppelin mail, the Hermann E. Sieger GmbH, Lorch, the "Schweizer Aerophilatelisten-Verein", the Deutsche Post AG and the Swiss Post, as well as many private customers.
